On the first night of a week-long voyage, a tragic incident occurred onboard the world’s largest cruise ship, the Icon of the Seas. A passenger jumped overboard from the ship while it was heading from Florida to Honduras. Despite efforts by the crew and rescue boats to save him, he was pronounced dead.

The Coast Guard reported that the man was retrieved by a rescue boat deployed by the cruise ship but did not play a significant role in the incident. The US Coast Guard assisted with the search and rescue operation.

The incident took place when the ship was only 300 miles away from PortMiami. The crew of the Icon of the Seas stopped for two hours to help with the search and rescue mission. Passengers shared videos of the rescue boats setting out to retrieve him, expressing shock and sadness over his death.

The Icon of Seas boasts impressive amenities such as a water park, waterslides, pools, an ice skating rink, a theater, a carousel, and over 40 restaurants, bars and lounges. This vessel is currently one of Royal Caribbean’s flagship ships at 1200 feet long and almost four city blocks wide.
