On Monday (24), a tragic accident occurred in Germany involving the escort of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. While in Stuttgart to watch his country’s team play against Scotland in the European Championship on Sunday (23), a 69-year-old driver failed to notice that a street was blocked for the Hungarian Prime Minister’s convoy to pass through. The driver hit the motorcycle of a 61-year-old police officer, causing the motorcycle to collide with another one where a 27-year-old police officer was riding.

Orbán himself was not injured in the accident and continued to the Stuttgart airport, from where he left for Rome to meet with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The accident resulted in the death of one police officer and serious injuries to another. The incident has led to an outpouring of sympathy and concern for the deceased police officer and the injured officer, reminding us of the risks and dangers faced by those involved in providing security escorts for prominent figures. It is a somber reminder of the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers in their line of duty to protect and serve the public.
