On the east side of Detroit, in the 11100 block of Beaconsfield Street, just south of Morang Avenue, a shooting incident occurred on Memorial Day. The area was heavily policed following the shooting. Although officials deemed it a critical police incident, neighbors and family members reported that the shooting took place at a home and there might be a fatality.

A woman who lived in the home had her adult son visiting on Memorial Day. The son was said to be experiencing a mental health breakdown that had been going on for about a week prior to the shooting. The mother had been trying to get him some form of treatment before the incident took place, but details on what led to the breakdown on Monday were not disclosed.
