In the latest seat forecast for the European Parliament, traditional parties are set to win in a landslide victory in Sunday’s European elections. According to the European Parliament’s results service, preliminary results have been provided for all EU countries except Ireland. The forecast indicates that the European People’s Party (EPP) will remain the largest party in the Parliament with 184 seats. The Social Democrats (S&D) are expected to be the second-largest group with 139 seats, while Renew is projected to come in third with 79 representatives.
The EPP plans to start coalition negotiations with the S&D and Renew in the coming days. The European Conservatives and Reformists group (ECR) is forecasted as the fourth-largest group with 73 seats, followed by the Greens with 52 seats. The far-right Identity and Democracy group is projected to have 58 seats, and The Left group would have 36 representatives. However, non-aligned and other representatives may change the compositions of these groups post-election defections are common among parties.
