Toyota Motor Corporation, a Japanese automotive manufacturer, recently announced two inspection campaigns in Finland to address software problems and malfunctions related to safety and assistance systems as well as front and rear view cameras. The company invited nearly 3,000 cars to be inspected, including the Corolla Cross, bZ4X, NX, Prius, Mirai, Lexus RX, NX, UX, ES and RZ models.

The first inspection campaign is focused on the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) system which includes models such as the Corolla Cross and bZ4X as well as Lexus’ NX models. The TSS system is designed to provide drivers with enhanced safety features that can assist in various driving scenarios. However, there have been reports of software issues that may cause crashes in certain situations. To fix this issue, Toyota will update the camera software for the forward-looking camera of the TSS system.

The second inspection campaign is aimed at addressing problems with reversing cameras. Moisture may get into the cameras and cause malfunctions which can result in unsafe driving conditions. To address this issue, Toyota will inspect the cameras and replace them with improved versions if necessary. The company has not yet stated whether these software issues or malfunctioning cameras have caused any accidents or dangerous situations but they assure customers that all repairs are provided free of charge.
