The Douglas County Health Department and Omaha’s Stormwater Division have issued a warning regarding a harmful algal bloom at Candlewood Reservoir in west Omaha. Tests conducted on water samples taken from the reservoir near 132nd and West Dodge Road this week revealed total microcystin levels above the safe threshold of eight parts per billion.

Due to this, the public has been advised against swimming in the reservoir until further notice. While recreational fishing and boating are still allowed, residents are encouraged to exercise caution and avoid any activities that could result in water ingestion. It is crucial to keep pets away from the water and prevent them from drinking from the lake as well.

This alert serves as a reminder to prioritize safety and avoid contact with the affected water. Please follow the guidance provided by health officials to protect yourself and your loved ones.
