The Toronto Blue Jays made a roster move on Saturday, placing All-Star closer Jordan Romano on the 15-day injured list due to a sore right elbow. In his place, left-hander Brendon Little was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo. Romano’s IL stint is retroactive to Thursday, and he was unavailable for Friday’s game against Pittsburgh due to lingering soreness from his previous outing.

On Friday, manager John Schneider revealed that Romano had undergone an MRI which showed no structural damage. However, Romano will be shut down for several days to allow for rest and recovery. This news comes after pitcher Alek Manoah, a 2022 Cy Young finalist, was also placed on the IL with a sprained elbow the day prior.

As a result of these injuries, Schneider announced that right-handers Yimi García and Chad Green will split closing duties in the interim. With both Romano and Manoah sidelined, it’s a tough blow for the Blue Jays to lose two key pitchers to elbow injuries. However, they are hoping for a speedy recovery for both players so they can return to action soon. In the meantime, they will rely on their bullpen depth to fill the void left by these talented arms.
