An American technology company Tile, which specializes in Bluetooth connected devices like Sticker, has been hit by a cyber attack that resulted in the theft of a large amount of customer data. The hacker gained unauthorized access to an internal platform of Tile and stole data including names and telephone numbers of customers.

The stolen data does not include the location of Tile devices, but the cybercriminal obtained login credentials for a system belonging to possibly a former employee. The incident was first reported by 404 Media, which confirmed the theft of customer data such as names, addresses, email addresses, payment details, and phone numbers.

Life360, which acquired Tile in 2021, has acknowledged that they were the victim of an extortion attempt and received communications from an unknown actor claiming to possess Tile customer information. They found unauthorized access to a customer service platform but not to the main service platform. The potentially affected data consists of names, email addresses, and phone numbers but does not include more confidential information like passwords or credit card numbers.

Life360 believes the incident was limited to a specific platform and not widespread. They are taking measures to further protect their systems in response to the unauthorized access.
