Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek are set to face each other at the French Open for the third consecutive year. Both players won their quarterfinal matches on Tuesday, setting up a semifinal clash on Thursday at Roland Garros. Swiatek, a three-time French Open champion, dominated Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova 6-0, 6-2. This came after Swiatek’s quick 6-0, 6-0 victory in the fourth round that lasted just 40 minutes, the shortest tour-level match of her career.
Earlier on Tuesday, Gauff staged a comeback against No. 8 seed Ons Jabeur, winning 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Gauff didn’t take a lead on Jabeur’s serve until the seventh game when she broke to go up 3-1 in the second set. Gauff has faced Swiatek three times at the French Open, losing all three matches to the eventual champion. Despite Gauff’s 1-10 record against Swiatek, she is just two wins away from becoming the youngest American to win a second major since Venus Williams at the 2000 U.S. Open.
In the men’s quarterfinals later on Tuesday, No. 2 seed Jannik Sinner faces No. 10 Grigor Dimitrov, and No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz plays No. 9 Stefanos Tsitsipas. The French Open serves as the final tournament in Paris Olympic tennis qualifying
