Larry Allen, a legendary offensive lineman and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, passed away suddenly on Sunday while on vacation with his family in Mexico. He was 52 years old.
Allen, who was drafted in the second round out of Sonoma State in 1994, had an illustrious career that spanned 14 seasons, all with the Dallas Cowboys except for one year with the San Francisco 49ers. During his time with the Cowboys, Allen played every offensive-line position except for center and was known for his incredible athleticism and strength. He earned 11 Pro Bowl selections and six First-Team All-Pro nods and was a key player on the Cowboys’ Super Bowl team in the 1995 season.
Allen’s versatility and dependability set him apart as one of the most respected offensive linemen in NFL history. He played a crucial role in opening running lanes for Emmitt Smith, the NFL all-time leading rusher. His contributions to both the Cowboys’ success and to football as a whole will never be forgotten.
Allen is survived by his wife, Janelle, and their children Jayla, Loriana, and Larry III. The Cowboys and Jerry Jones extend their deepest condolences to the Allen family during this difficult time. Allen will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and former teammates.
