John McAllister, better known as Eastside from the Netflix series ‘Unlocked: a jail experiment’, has tragically passed away at the young age of 29. According to reports from various American media outlets, McAllister was discovered lifeless in his bed on Sunday and was transported to a medical unit in Arkansas where he was pronounced dead shortly after. There is no indication of foul play or suicide in his death.

While serving a three-year sentence at Williams Prison in Pine Bluff, Arkansas for charges related to drugs, burglary, theft and weapons possession, McAllister honed his skills as a tattoo artist and offered tattoos to his fellow inmates. Despite being incarcerated fifteen times, he remained resilient and found joy in helping others.

McAllister’s untimely demise has left many shocked and saddened by the loss of such a young life. However, his legacy lives on through his participation in the experimental series ‘Unlocked: a jail experiment’ where he shared his experiences with others. The series sheds light on the complex issues surrounding incarceration and rehabilitation in the criminal justice system. Through his story, we are reminded of the importance of addressing these issues head-on and working towards creating a more just society for all.
