Roman Josi, a defenseman from Switzerland, is representing his country at the IIHF World Championship in Czechia, where he hopes to help his team win its first gold medal. The Swiss have advanced to the semifinals and will face Canada in a game that will air at 11:20 a.m. CT on the NHL Network. The winner of this match will move on to the gold-medal game against the winner of the Sweden-Czechia contest.

Josi has been instrumental in Switzerland’s success so far, contributing 11 points (three goals, eight assists) in the tournament and serving as the team captain. Former Predators forwards Kevin Fiala and Nino Niederreiter have also made significant contributions to the Swiss team, with Fiala recording 11 points and Niederreiter tallying six points in eight games.

The Swiss suffered their only defeat in the tournament to Canada but have secured victories against Norway, Austria, Czechia, Great Britain, Denmark, Finland, and Germany to reach the semifinals. Josi, a veteran of 13 NHL seasons, is coming off one of his best years, tying his career-high 23 goals and collecting 62 assists during the 2023-24 season.

Josi was recently named one of the three finalists for the Norris Trophy, awarded to the NHL’s best defenseman
