The Steelers have signed tight end Izaiah Gathings to a one-year contract, the team announced on Wednesday. Prior to signing, Gathings had a workout with the team earlier in the week.

Gathings is an undrafted free agent who originally signed with the Jets after their rookie minicamp in 2023. He also spent time with the Chiefs last season, including a stint on their practice squad. However, he was cut by the Chiefs on May 4th despite being in the NFL for a couple of seasons. Despite this, Gathings has yet to play in a regular-season game.

During his college football career at Middle Tennessee State, Gathings showed promise by catching 60 passes for 559 yards and two touchdowns in 2022 alone. Across two seasons at Middle Tennessee State, he played 24 games and amassed 84 receptions for 861 yards and three touchdowns. Prior to his time at Middle Tennessee State, Gathings played at Gardner-Webb, where he had 101 receptions for 1,341 yards and 13 touchdowns in 24 games.
