Brandon Aiyuk’s contract negotiations with the 49ers are currently being influenced by the deal signed by wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown with the Lions this offseason. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Aiyuk is aiming to surpass St. Brown’s contract and secure a deal that is equal to or greater than that amount.
While Aiyuk is looking to secure a contract similar to St. Brown’s, the 49ers may be hesitant to offer him a deal that exceeds St. Brown’s contract. This leaves Aiyuk with a decision to make: accept a lower offer from the 49ers or play out the current season on his $14.1 million base salary.
After the 2024 season, Aiyuk will become a free agent, at which point the 49ers could apply the franchise tag, negotiate a long-term contract, or allow him to leave the team. The outcome of Aiyuk’s negotiations with the 49ers remains uncertain as both parties aim to reach an agreement that satisfies their respective interests.
