Clinician well-being and financial health can be intertwined in the healthcare industry. By prioritizing clinician well-being, leaders can also address other institutional problems simultaneously. Technology that streamlines processes and improves the experience of frontline clinicians can reduce burnout, leading to better financial outcomes. This was highlighted by U.S. Surgeon General Vice Admiral Vivek Murthy, MD, MBA, who pointed out the connection between clinician burnout and decreased patient safety. Burnout among healthcare workers can result in harmful consequences such as decreased time spent with patients, increased medical errors, and hospital-acquired infections. The Triple Aim in healthcare was designed to optimize health system performance by focusing on improving population health, enhancing the patient experience, and reducing the per capita cost of care. However, with the recognition of the correlation between physician burnout and negative clinical outcomes, the Quadruple Aim was introduced which includes improving the work life of healthcare providers. By taking action on clinician well-being and organizational financial health, healthcare providers can strive to achieve better overall outcomes.
