When planning my next air travel, I usually opt for the cheapest nonstop flight available from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). On this particular trip, the most cost-effective option was an eight-hour overnight flight with Norse Atlantic Airways, a new budget airline that started operating in 2022 and offers nonstop flights to several European countries.

I decided to go for the economy light ticket, which cost $88 and included a seat as well as space for a personal item. However, I paid an additional $75 to reserve a window seat in advance and a $20 check-in fee at the airport, bringing the total cost to $183. Although I appreciate the extra day at my destination that comes with red-eye flights, I had never taken an international overnight flight before and found myself feeling exhausted at the start of my trip. In my opinion, the time saved was not worth the fatigue I experienced.

Booking a budget airline for a long-haul flight may save money upfront, but it’s important to consider the potential downsides such as discomfort and exhaustion. In future travels, I may opt for a more expensive flight with better amenities to ensure a more enjoyable travel experience.
