On Monday, the Phillies welcomed back Trea Turner to their active roster after six weeks of being sidelined with a hamstring strain. Turner will resume his role as the team’s shortstop and No. 2 hitter, behind Kyle Schwarber.

During Turner’s absence, Edmundo Sosa stepped up and played both offensively and defensively with impressive stats across 33 games. The Phillies had a 22-11 record during this time.

Now that Turner is back, Sosa will return to being a super-utilityman. He will also receive outfield work during pregame sessions to potentially provide the team with another right-handed-hitting option in left or center field.

To make room for Turner on the active roster, the Phillies decided to option Johan Rojas to Triple A. This move was preferred over designating Cristian Pache or David Dahl for assignment, as it was likely that they would be picked up by other teams.

Rojas will get the opportunity to play every day at Triple A and work on improving his offensive performance. While he struggled at the plate this season, the Phillies are hoping for better results based on his performance in the previous year.

Without Rojas, the Phillies plan to platoon Brandon Marsh and Pache in center field, with Whit Merrifield and Dahl sharing duties in left field.
