A man has been caught stealing the American flag from a Downtown Colorado Springs business twice in the past week. Security camera footage captured the man taking the flag from the left side of the door of “The Property Group” on S. Cascade Ave. This incident occurred around noon on Sunday, showing that the theft took place in broad daylight.

Justin Hermes, the owner of The Property Group, expressed his disappointment at the repeated thefts of his family’s legacy flag. Although he found some humor in the situation, he revealed that for him and his family, the flag represents their family’s legacy of service to their country. The flag holds sentimental value as it is flown in memory of his grandfather who served in World War II.

Despite feeling hurt by the repeated thefts, Hermes decided against filing a police report but expressed his desire for the thief to cease taking the flag. To address this issue, he has ordered extra flags to replace them each time one is stolen. The repeated thefts have left Hermes feeling conflicted as part of him finds it amusing while another part is deeply hurt by how disrespectful it is towards a symbol that honors his grandfather’s service.
