Tyler Stone, project director for Native Connections, believes that this collaboration will help tribal members feel more comfortable reaching out for assistance. By working with the hotline, individuals have the option to access services within their own tribe, providing a sense of familiarity and cultural understanding. This partnership ensures that native individuals who call 988 and wish to speak with someone from their tribe can do so, enhancing the quality of care and support available to them.
In addition to the 988 hotline, the Muscogee Creek Nation also offers a mental health crisis text line. By texting “Creek” to 741741, members can receive help and support during a crisis, whether it be related to suicide or any other mental health issue. This additional resource further enhances the mental health services available to Creek Nation members, emphasizing the tribe’s commitment to supporting the well-being of its community.
