Theo Epstein, Senior Advisor at Fenway Sports Group (FSG), recently discussed his role and the ways in which he works with various parts of the organization during an appearance on the NESN podcast. Epstein emphasized that his responsibilities vary depending on the organization but with the Red Sox, he focuses on building a great organization and identifying competitive advantages.

In addition to working closely with the Red Sox, Epstein also provides counsel to other FSG entities, such as the Pittsburgh Penguins and Liverpool. He collaborates with individuals like Penguins’ President of Hockey Operations Kyle Dubas on competitive advantages and FSG President Mike Gordon on regime change in Liverpool as manager Jürgen Klopp transitions out. Epstein draws on his experience with MLB rule changes to inform discussions about potential changes in the PGA Tour.

Despite his eventual aspirations to take on a more prominent role in an ownership group, Epstein expressed that he is currently content with his position and is not actively seeking a different opportunity. He is open to the idea of leading and making significant decisions in the future but is waiting for the right opportunity to present itself. Epstein sees his current role as a great entry point into ownership and looks forward to potentially pursuing meaningful projects that align with his values and goals.
