In Kyle, Texas, the Kyles recently attempted to break the world record for the largest gathering of people with one name. However, they fell short with only 706 Kyles showing up at a park near Austin. The current record is held by a town in Bosnia with 2325 people named Ivan. Despite not reaching the world record, the Kyles in Kyle, Texas continue to gather annually in an attempt to make history.
In 2023, Kyle ranked 416th among male names in the US, while Ivan ranked significantly higher at 153. According to the Social Security Administration, Kyle is not a very popular name in the US. This year’s gathering was not enough to surpass the record held by Ivans in another country.
Last year, during their annual event called Gathering of the Kyles, there were 1490 Kyles present. The community continues to celebrate their shared identity and culture through these events even though they did not manage to break the world record this time around.
