In 2022, two young brothers, Jessin and Liam Fisher, along with their cousin, Kaiden Madsen, made an incredible discovery during a hike in North Dakota. While exploring the area, they stumbled upon a rare juvenile T. rex fossil that they named “The Brother.” The fossil was later identified as a piece of the T. rex’s skull and two teeth.
Dr. Tyler Lyson, the Curator of Paleontology at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, led a team of paleontologists to excavate the fossil. The boys were thrilled to have bones sticking out of rock and expressed their excitement about their discovery. Dr. Lyson praised the boys for their passion and thrill of discovery, noting that their find advances science and deepens our understanding of the natural world.
As a reward for their discovery, the young explorers were given a bronze replica of the T. rex’s tooth. Visitors can now view the fossil in the temporary exhibition titled “Discovering Teen Rex” at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. The story of this incredible discovery has been filmed and will be featured in the documentary “TREX,” which will be shown in the museum’s giant screen Infinity Theater.
