In the midst of preparation for graduation and entry into the workforce, one organization in particular is emphasizing the importance of mental health during this transition. The Hive, a group of five organizations in Rochester, is dedicated to helping young people land their first job and navigate the challenges that may arise in the workplace.

Allen Pinkins, a coordinator at The Hive, works closely with recent graduates like Alexis Silapaxay to help them understand and manage their mental health as they prepare for interviews. Silapaxay shared how the support from The Hive helped her break out of her shell and overcome nerves during interviews.

The Hive goes beyond interview skills, with Pinkins emphasizing the significance of mental health for success in the workplace. The organization hosts a mental health expo and provides valuable lessons to students on how to communicate their feelings and manage stress. Pinkins believes that by equipping teens with these skills, they will be better prepared to navigate challenges and obstacles that may come their way in their jobs.

Silapaxay, who is getting ready to start her job, highlights one of the key lessons she learned from The Hive – the importance of being yourself and how it can positively impact others. By focusing on mental health and authenticity, The Hive is committed to helping young people succeed in the workforce. Ultimately, The Hive aims to prepare 15,000 young individuals to enter the workforce over the next four years.
