A seven-bedroom ‘zombie mansion’ near Portland, Oregon is currently listed for $1.3 million. In Tigard, Oregon, approximately 10 miles outside of Portland, there stands a 9,052-square-foot, seven-bedroom house that has never been lived in. Construction on the house began in 2006 but was never completed due to complications with the builder’s loan during the recession as reported by the Oregonian in December 2023.
The house lacks electricity, water and heating and is now covered in graffiti. The windows are boarded up and squatters have made themselves at home in the empty mansion. Despite its current state of disrepair, listing agent Eric Squire believes that the property holds value not in the building itself which may be torn down by a future buyer but in the land it sits on.
Squire mentioned that the 1.5-acre lot can be split into seven buildable lots providing potential for future development. Although the current condition of the mansion may seem daunting, Squire believes that once built out, the property could be worth anywhere from $3 to $6 million. The value lies not only in its potential for future development but also in its prime location near Portland’s bustling city life.
