A 32-inch water main break in Atlanta has caused interruptions in water service and low water pressure in the city’s downtown area and other parts of the capital of Georgia. Crews are working to make emergency repairs, according to a statement from the Atlanta Department of Watershed Management. Water service has been temporarily interrupted, impacting residents, businesses, and hydrants in the affected area.

As a result of the water main break, some Atlanta and Fulton County offices have closed, as reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Tourist attractions such as the Georgia Aquarium have also been affected, with operations ending early. Zoo Atlanta, located southeast of downtown, closed at 1 p.m. on Friday due to water pressure issues. The zoo has contingency plans in place to ensure the animals have access to water during this time.

In addition to the water main break, a boil water advisory has been issued for a large portion of metro Atlanta by the Department of Watershed Management. The public is being asked to restrict water usage to allow the system’s pressure to rebuild. When under a boil water advisory, water should be boiled for at least one minute after reaching a rolling boil. The advisory will remain in effect until the Georgia Environmental Protection Division clears the Department of Watershed Management to lift it after sampling and testing.
