It’s been over 19 or 20 months since OpenAI launched ChatGPT with Microsoft as its primary customer. Since then, Google Cloud has been working hard to close the gap between them. Last week saw Google Cloud introduce new models that directly challenged offerings from OpenAI and Microsoft.

Google Cloud is determined to make Vertex AI seen as the most “enterprise-ready” GenAI platform by rolling out new products tailored to meet the needs of enterprise customers. It offers three different variations within the model to cater to high-end, middle, and low-end needs.

One of these new models introduced is Gemini 1.5 Flash which Google Cloud claims is ideal for retail chat, document processing, and as a research agent for processing vast amounts of data. Impressive customer applications have been noted from companies like Uber Eats and Ipsos.

In this highly competitive area of AI technology, Microsoft and OpenAI initially had first-mover status but Google Cloud is pushing back hard to take over that lead. The race for supremacy in this arena is becoming increasingly intense with more enterprises expected to join in soon as both Microsoft and Google Cloud vie for recognition as most enterprise-ready platforms
