Businessman Steve Endacott is running for a seat in Parliament in Britain’s upcoming national elections. What sets him apart is that he is being represented by an avatar generated by artificial intelligence, making him the world’s first AI lawmaker. The avatar, known as “AI Steve,” was created by Neural Voice using Endacott’s voice and physique.

Endacott plans to expand this initiative by launching a party and recruiting more AI candidates across the country. Through real-time engagement with residents, AI Steve discusses various topics such as LGBTQ rights, housing, trash collection, and immigration. Residents can also provide policy suggestions, some of which have already been included in Endacott’s program, like the removal of VAT on private education fees and a reduction in student tuition fees.

While some residents like Eona Johnston see the potential benefits of AI in politics, others like Jim Cheek express skepticism about AI-driven lawmakers. The project has sparked a debate among citizens, with opinions divided on whether AI can effectively represent the interests of constituents in Parliament. Regardless, Endacott believes that this initiative marks the beginning of a new and democratic era in politics.
