On Saturday night, during the New York Yankees’ game against the Atlanta Braves, Giancarlo Stanton sustained a left hamstring strain while running the bases in the sixth inning. Despite the team’s 8-3 victory, Stanton was placed on the 10-day injured list due to his injury. Infielder Oswald Peraza was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take Stanton’s spot on the 26-man roster.

Stanton has had an impressive season thus far, hitting 18 home runs which is tied for second on the Yankees’ roster with Juan Soto. He has a .246 batting average and a .795 OPS. However, this injury comes shortly after top prospect Jasson Domínguez was also placed on the injured list with an oblique strain that is expected to keep him out for up to eight weeks, potentially ruling him out as Stanton’s replacement in the lineup.

Injuries have been a frequent occurrence for Stanton throughout his career with various ailments leading to numerous stints on the injured list during his time with the Yankees. General manager Brian Cashman expressed frustration over Stanton’s injury history in the past, but later met with Stanton and his agent to address any concerns. Stanton reported to spring training noticeably lighter this year as an attempt to reduce strain on his body.

While Stanton is out of action, Soto and Aaron Judge are expected to rotate in the designated hitter spot, with Trent Grisham likely seeing more playing time in center field. Grisham hit a home run on Saturday while pinch-hitting for Stanton.
