The Indianapolis 500 was a tough race for Kyle Larson, who was attempting to complete “The Double” by racing in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. However, inclement weather thwarted his efforts and he finished in 18th place in his first Indy 500.

Despite initially dropping to 14th on a restart, Larson fought his way back to sixth place before a pit road speeding penalty put him a lap down in 22nd. He managed to get back on the lead lap after a caution and briefly held the lead before making another pit stop.

The duel for the win came down to Josef Newgarden of Team Penske and Arrow McLaren’s Pato O’Ward, with Newgarden passing O’Ward on the final lap for his second Indianapolis 500 victory. To be eligible for the 2024 NASCAR Playoffs, Larson will need a waiver from NASCAR as drivers are required to start all points races to qualify for the postseason. NASCAR may grant a waiver under special circumstances.
