The recent dissolution of the National Assembly by Emmanuel Macron has had a major impact on the Paris Stock Exchange. On June 9th, the announcement led to a downward trend that continued throughout the month. On Friday, the leading CAC 40 index closed with a loss of 0.68%, its lowest level since January 25th. The gap between France’s ten-year bond interest rate and that of Germany is currently at its widest point since 2012.

Compared to other European markets, the French Stock Exchange experienced significant declines on Friday, with Frankfurt ending up just 0.14% and London down 0.19%. The quarterly results for the Paris Stock Exchange were also disappointing, with the worst performance in two years observed during the last three months. Despite breaking records in May, the overall performance of the CAC 40 over the first six months of the year was negative.
