The Ministry of Diaspora and the Fight against Anti-Semitism in Yerevan, Armenia is taking anti-Semitic events very seriously. They work with government ministries in various countries to ensure the safety of Jewish citizens and prevent events with an anti-Semitic background. Minister Amichai Shikli responded to MK Simon Moshiashvili’s proposal for increased security following the fourth desecration of the synagogue in Yerevan since last October.

Over the weekend, the ‘Mordechai Navi’ synagogue in Yerevan was once again attacked. Unknown individuals threw stones and broke a window in the synagogue, leading to a criminal investigation for vandalism on a religious site. This marks the fourth attack on the synagogue since the ‘Iron Swords’ war, with one previous incident involving arson by an Armenian terrorist group claiming responsibility.

Minister Shikli emphasized that there has been an increase in desecration of Jewish symbols, such as memorials to Holocaust victims and synagogues, following Israel’s arms agreement with Azerbaijan. He also noted that there has been a rise in anti-Semitic attacks across Europe and America since the ‘Seventh of October’ massacre.

A report submitted by the Diaspora Ministry six months ago revealed that there has been a dramatic increase in incidents worldwide since the ‘Iron Swords’ war and intensification of conflicts. The decreasing Jewish community in Yerevan, once over 1000 strong, now struggles with fewer than 200 members and faces ongoing threats and attacks.

Despite historical ties between Jews and Armenia dating back to Babylonian exile, MK Simon Moshiashvili expressed concern over a rising wave of anti-Semitism across Europe and America since then. He praised Israel’s ambassador and commissioner for Armenia for their efforts to convey messages of support and demand for safety measures despite ongoing challenges faced by Jewish communities worldwide.

In conclusion, while there have been significant efforts made by various governments to address anti-Semitism globally, it is essential to continue working together to ensure that every Jewish individual feels safe from persecution or discrimination wherever they may be living or traveling.
