The Do X, a pioneering aircraft in aviation history, made its debut in 1929 as the world’s largest, heaviest, and most powerful flying boat. Manufactured by the German company Dornier and designed by Claude Dornier, the aircraft was completed after over 240,000 hours of work.

Initially powered by 12 Bristol Jupiter engines, the Do X faced issues with overheating and altitude. It was later re-equipped with a Curtiss V-1570 Conqueror engine, allowing it to reach the required altitude for transatlantic flights. The luxurious interior of the Do X resembled that of transatlantic ships, with three decks including passenger seating, bedrooms, a smoking room, dining room, and more.

During its testing phase, the Do X set a world record by carrying 169 passengers on a single flight. Despite this successes it embarked on a transatlantic test flight to New York in the early 1930s but faced setbacks when a fire broke out in Lisbon and damaged the left wing. After completing the journey and spending time in New York for engine maintenance financial difficulties led Dornier to transfer the aircraft to Lufthansa.

Despite its grand plans for future use as an airline passenger transport aircraft , unfortunately during World War II it met an unfortunate fate during a landing near Passau and was ultimately destroyed
