Eating on-the-go often leads to the consumption of packaged snacks and meals. These foods are convenient and taste good, making them a popular choice. However, studies have shown that more and more people are turning to ultra-processed foods, despite warnings from experts to avoid them. A recent study published in the British Medical Journal has revealed the negative health impacts associated with consuming these foods.

Ultra-processed foods like chips, frozen meals, processed meats, packaged snacks, and bread have all been chemically modified in some way. They typically contain high amounts of sugar and minimal whole foods. In the United States, over half of the average diet consists of these processed foods.

Research has shown that individuals who consume more ultra-processed foods are at a higher risk of developing several medical issues. There is convincing evidence linking these foods to cardiovascular disease-related death, anxiety, mental disorders, and Type 2 diabetes.
