The Da Vinci Science Center in downtown Allentown is now officially open to the public, marking years of planning and changes. Allertown Mayor Matt Tuerk referred to the $75 million science center as a significant investment in the city, emphasizing its role in educating young people and attracting more visitors downtown.

Lin Erickson, the executive director of the Da Vinci Science Center, highlighted its potential to spark a new wave of redevelopment in Allentown, similar to the impact of the PPL Center a decade ago. The center’s relocation from Cedar Crest College aims to enhance the city’s appeal with new developments nearby, including apartments, restaurants, and commercial spaces. Future attractions like the planned Archer Music Hall will further boost tourism in the area.

The Science Center is not just for school field trips; it is also appealing to families and adult tourists from across the region. Collaborating with Discover Lehigh Valley, the center aims to extend visitors’ stays to explore more attractions, restaurants, and businesses in the area. The venue will also be available for events like weddings and corporate meetings, accommodating more than 300 seated guests. With 400,000 people expected annually and $33 million in revenue generated for the region, this new science center is set to become a major attraction for visitors downtown.
