The extreme tax cuts for wealthy individuals and corporations, radical deregulation, and anti-worker and anti-“middle class” policies have all contributed to the economic disparities that are now threatening the survival of democracy.
When Bill Clinton ran for president, his campaign slogan was “It’s the economy, stupid!” This sentiment has remained true, but it has now evolved to encompass the politics behind economic decisions. After years of wealth and income disparities increasing, it is clear that politics plays a crucial role in shaping the economic landscape. Therefore, attributing financial stress solely to politics overlooks the broader systemic issues that have contributed to the current state of affairs.
