For over 50 years, Victor’s Cafeteria was a staple in downtown New Iberia. The news of its closure was confirmed by KATC after social media posts began circulating last week about the longtime eatery’s fate. Despite being on the market for sale for several years, no buyer has come forward to purchase the property.

The business, located at 109 W. Main St., shut down on Monday rather than the previously reported Wednesday closing date. Victor Huckaby, who took over the restaurant from his father in 1984, had been operating the establishment for decades. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Victor’s Cafeteria made changes to its hours and began offering breakfast exclusively.

The building that housed Victor’s Cafeteria has a rich history dating back to the 1890s when it was originally the home of Pfister’s Jewelry Store. The property is currently listed for sale with a price tag of $500,000.
