In a blow to Rent Me Superstore, a golf cart rental business in Myrtle Beach, the city has placed a 45-day ban on its operations due to unpaid business license and decal fees. The suspension was announced on May 21, but despite making full payments by June 11, the company is still facing the ban. Rent Me Superstore has been operating with annual franchise licenses for over seven years and does not have any outstanding payments to the city. However, the company could lose out on $450,000 in revenue during the suspension period.

The company believes that any issues were resolved with the payment and that it had made tardy payments from Rent Me Superstore in the past without further action. The suspension puts the survival of the company at risk as it may lose employees, goodwill, marketing opportunities and contracts with third parties such as insurance companies and landlords. Attorneys for Rent Me Superstore are seeking judicial intervention to lift the suspension, arguing that allowing it to continue could ruin the company while temporarily lifting it will not harm the city.

The city of Myrtle Beach declined to comment on pending litigation. Spokeswoman Meredith Denari stated that they do not provide comments on legal matters that are still pending. A lawsuit filed on Monday in Horry County Common Pleas Court details how lifting the suspension will avoid potential business closure and emphasizes its urgency.
