South Los Angeles’ Florence-Graham neighborhood residents are raising concerns about the presence of discarded syringe needles and trash near a Los Angeles Metro light rail station. Roberto Sanchez, who commutes to work using the Blue Line, shared his personal experience of stepping on a needle and experiencing a puncture. This incident led him to seek medical attention and reflect on his own health and safety.

Mary Hellen, another resident, has taken a proactive approach by cleaning up the streets in her area, including disposing of abandoned needles. Her actions highlight the community’s efforts to address the issue of unsafe conditions near the light rail station.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly Mitchell is committed to prioritizing the safety of residents in her district. She is working with Metro and other entities to find immediate and long-term solutions for improving the situation.
