Additionally, alcohol consumption can disrupt hormone levels that are important for bone health, such as estrogen and testosterone, leading to decreased bone formation and increased bone breakdown.

To protect their bones from the negative effects of excessive alcohol consumption, individuals should limit their intake or quit drinking altogether. It is recommended that men consume no more than two units of alcohol per day and women consume no more than one unit, with no more than five days of consumption per week. Building healthy habits such as maintaining proper nutrition with key nutrients for bone health, getting enough vitamin D through sunlight or diet, exercising regularly, quitting smoking, and undergoing regular health check-ups can also help improve bone health.
