The future of office administrative assistants may be uncertain, as AI advancements could lead to a shift in their roles. According to McKinsey partner Kweilin Ellingrud, around 12 million workers will need to change jobs by 2030 due to AI. This trend is similar to the pace observed during COVID-19 and will impact sectors such as administration, customer service, and manufacturing.

However, not all jobs will be negatively affected by AI. Certain areas like healthcare and STEM are projected to experience job growth. It’s important to note that AI is expected to replace around 30% of tasks across various industries, with automation replacing jobs that involve repetitive tasks, data collection, and basic data processing.

As per a McKinsey report written by Ellingrud, an estimated 11.8 million workers in roles facing reduced demand will have to find new career paths by 2030. Regardless of the specific occupation, everyone should anticipate some changes in their current roles as generative AI and traditional automation become more prevalent in the workplace. In order to prepare for these changes, individuals across different professions should stay up-to-date with technological advancements in their fields and be willing to adapt accordingly.
