The Texas Rangers have activated Nathan Eovaldi from the 15-day injured list and rookie outfielder Wyatt Langford from the 10-day IL to start against the Arizona Diamondbacks in a World Series rematch. Eovaldi had been out with a right groin strain but had been performing well before the injury, with a 2-2 record and 2.61 ERA in his first seven starts. Langford, a top draft pick from last summer, had been performing well with one home run and 11 RBIs in his recent games.

Manager Bruce Bochy had initially planned for Eovaldi to pitch in a rehab game before rejoining the rotation, but after determining he was ready, Eovaldi got the start in the game against the Diamondbacks. The Rangers’ Tuesday starter had initially been listed as TBA, with Dane Dunning expected to start on Wednesday instead due to an extra day of rest.

The moves were made by the Rangers to bolster their lineup and pitching staff as they faced the Diamondbacks in the series. Rookie outfielder Wyatt Langford was also activated from the 10-day IL after a hamstring strain, while Evan Carter was placed on the IL with a lumbar sprain. Right-handed reliever Yerry Rodríguez was sent to Triple-A Round Rock.

Carter, who had been a starter in the playoffs last season, is currently struggling at
