The T20 Cricket World Cup official matches are set to begin on Long Island, with the first match between Sri Lanka and South Africa. Streets around Eisenhower Park in East Meadow have been closed since 6:30 a.m. for the event and are expected to reopen after 6 p.m. Hempstead Turnpike may be a good alternative route to navigate around the area during the closure.

In light of terror threats against the match between India and Pakistan, police will be implementing extra safety measures. Attendees can expect metal detectors at the park entrance, a strict no-bags policy, and a designated no-fly zone for added security.

Sadly, two NYPD officers were injured in a shootout with a migrant in Queens earlier today. More updates on their conditions will be provided by Phil Taitt and Raegen Medgie shortly. For more news from Long Island, download the abc7NY app for breaking news alerts or follow us on YouTube.
