A potentially hazardous odor linked to roof repair work at the building on Halifax Street has prompted the city health department to temporarily close its location and redirect services to other departments within the Crater Health District. In order to ensure the safety of both staff and clients, the department made this decision until the cause of the odor is identified and evaluated for potential health hazards.

All appointments and services scheduled to take place at 301 Halifax Street have been canceled until further notice. Appointments for immunizations on May 14 will now be held at the Prince George Health Department, while the walk-in sexually transmitted infections clinic scheduled for May 17 has been relocated to the Hopewell Health Department.

Environmental health services have been re-routed to the Dinwiddie Health Department, with correspondence to be sent to craterehs1@vdh.virginia.gov. WIC appointments scheduled for Monday have been moved to Dinwiddie Health Department with upcoming appointments in Petersburg to be rescheduled at other Crater Health locations.

For vital records assistance, individuals can visit any of the other departments within the Crater Health District during operational hours. Contact information for other health department locations can be found on the Virginia Department of Health website or by calling (804) 863-1652 for information specific to appointments or other services in Petersburg.
