Summer McIntosh has made history at the Canadian Olympic trials, setting a new world record in the 400-meter individual medley. At just 17 years old, McIntosh finished the race in 4 minutes and 24.38 seconds, beating her previous time by almost 1.5 seconds. This accomplishment took place at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, where McIntosh also made waves in last year’s world championships trials.

As a two-time world champion in the 400 IM, McIntosh was in top form throughout the race. She maintained a strong pace, especially on the breaststroke leg, where she opened up a two-second lead with 100 meters to go. McIntosh credits her ability to stay focused and have fun during the race as keys to her success.

Training in Sarasota, Florida, McIntosh emphasized the importance of racing in front of a crowd. The adrenaline rush she gets from competing in such an energetic atmosphere gives her the extra push she needs to excel. At the trials, McIntosh also won the 400 freestyle and the 200 freestyle, showcasing her versatility and dominance in the pool.

With her impressive performance at the trials, McIntosh has solidified her status as a rising star in swimming. Her sights are set on representing Canada at the Olympics and proving that she has what it takes to compete on the world stage.
