The Clark County School District (CCSD) has announced that Teachers Health Trust, its health insurance provider for district teachers, has fully repaid the $35 million loan it received in 2021 from the district. During this time, Teachers Health Trust was struggling with a $66 million debt burden and faced denials of medical coverage and collections bills for teachers.

The successful repayment of the loan was due to the collaborative efforts of all parties involved, including CCSD and community providers. The deadline for repayment was June 30, 2024. Tom Zumtobel, CEO of Teachers Health Trust, stated that the advance from CCSD and the commitment of community providers were critical in ensuring the trust’s recovery.

CCEA Executive Director John Vellardita previously highlighted Teachers Health Trust’s lack of adequate funding from CCSD, emphasizing the need for increased contributions to prevent a growing deficit. In response to these challenges, Teachers Health Trust has committed to transparency and accountability, stating that its members have benefited greatly from increased employer contributions negotiated by CCEA. The trust’s dedication to providing quality health coverage for teachers and their families remains a top priority.
