The 2024 Olympic Games are fast approaching, with pool swimming events set to begin on July 27th. The Chinese Olympic team is intensely training behind closed doors in Shanghai Municipality, aiming to surpass their six-medal performance from the previous Olympics in Tokyo. Among the team is Tang Qianting, a 20-year-old swimmer who recently claimed her first individual World Championships gold medal in Doha.

Tang’s victory in Doha, where she dominated the women’s 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:05.27, has fueled her confidence and motivation heading into the upcoming Olympics. She further solidified her prowess by setting a new national record at the Chinese Championships with an impressive time of 1:04.39, making her the fourth fastest performer in history. Tang’s success has instilled in her a hunger for training and a drive to work even harder towards her Olympic goals.

In a recent interview with China Media Group, Tang expressed her lifelong dream of winning an Olympic gold medal and her unwavering determination to achieve that goal. Despite facing setbacks earlier in the year when some of her teammates tested positive for banned substances, Tang remained focused on her training and maintained a positive mindset for the upcoming games. She sees the Olympics as the pinnacle of success in the swimming world and is prepared to give everything she has to make that dream come true.

Although Tang did not test positive for banned substances like some of her teammates earlier in the year, she faced disappointment in Tokyo where she finished tenth in the women’s 100m breaststroke event but was part of the medley relay team that finished fourth. As Tang gears up for Paris 2024, she is determined to make amends for Tokyo and pursue her ultimate goal of winning an Olympic gold medal.
