After spending a few seasons bouncing between NFL teams, former first-round pick Takk McKinley has finally found a permanent home with the New York Jets. The Jets announced his signing on Thursday, following his participation in their mandatory minicamp on a tryout basis.
McKinley was originally drafted 26th overall by the Atlanta Falcons in 2017 and spent three seasons with the team before being waived in November 2020. Despite being claimed by the Bengals and 49ers, he failed physicals with both teams and eventually found himself with the Raiders. However, he never played a game with them and went on to have short stints with the Browns and Rams over the next couple of seasons.
Throughout his career, McKinley has accumulated 98 tackles, 20 sacks, three forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery in 64 games. He has also recorded two sacks in two playoff appearances. His experience and skills as an edge rusher make him a valuable addition to the Jets’ roster as they look to bolster their defense for the upcoming season.
