The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and Texas Public Radio have teamed up for an upcoming “Think Science” live program that will focus on addiction. The event, titled “Let’s talk about addiction,” will delve into the latest information surrounding addiction to alcohol and drugs, a serious disorder that affects millions of people in the United States. In fact, two-thirds of adults in the country are said to be affected either personally or within their families by addiction.

The City of San Antonio recently declared drug overdoses a public health crisis, highlighting the urgency of addressing this issue head-on. To help address this crisis, experts from UT Health Science Center San Antonio’s Be Well Institute on Substance Use and Related Disorders will be featured at the event. This institute is dedicated to advancing addiction research, education, and evidence-based treatments.

Nathan Cone from Texas Public Radio will moderate the hour-long event, scheduled for Monday, July 15 at 7 p.m. in the Pestana Lecture Hall at the UT Health San Antonio Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Campus on Floyd Curl Drive. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m., giving attendees time to settle in before the program begins.

During the event, community members will have the opportunity to ask questions and gain insight into addiction and available resources for help. Expert speakers from UT Health Science Center San Antonio will lead discussions on topics such as risk factors for addiction, treatment options, and how to support loved ones who are struggling with addiction.

Overall, this collaborative event aims to shed light on addiction and provide valuable information to those who may be struggling or looking for resources to help themselves or their loved ones overcome this serious disorder.
