In a nail-biting T20 World Cup 2024 match in Barbados, Oman and Namibia played out a tie in their Group B match. Oman batted first on a challenging surface, scoring 109 runs in 19.4 overs. The left-arm pacer Rubel Trumpelmann made early breakthroughs, taking three wickets to finish with figures of 4/21.

Namibia seemed to be cruising in their chase before Oman fought back, leading to a tie. The match went into a Super Over, with Namibia’s David Wiese and Gerhard Erasmus scoring 21 runs off Oman’s Bilal Khan. Wiese then made an impact with the ball, dismissing Naseem Khushi and limiting Oman to 10 runs in their Super Over. This thrilling Super Over ended in a tie, with the highest score achieved by any team in T20 World Cup history.

This was only the fourth tie in T20 World Cup history and the third Super Over in the tournament. The first tie occurred in 2007 between India and Pakistan, which was decided by a bowl-out. The first Super Over was played in 2012 between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, where New Zealand lost out to Sri Lanka. Additionally, New Zealand also lost another Super Over to West Indies later that year.

The T20 World Cup Super Over now includes four matches:

1. New Zealand vs Sri Lanka (New Zealand won) – Kandy (2012)

2. West Indies vs New Zealand (West Indies won) – Kandy (2012)

3. India vs Pakistan (India won) – Johannesburg (Tiebreaker method used) – 2007
