The T20 World Cup has been hit with a major setback as the USA vs Ireland match was called off on Friday. This led to Pakistan being officially knocked out of the tournament. Both teams were unable to play due to wet outfield and rain, resulting in them sharing one point each. This move propelled the co-hosts to 5 points and into the Super 8s.

If Pakistan were to win their match against Ireland on Sunday, they could have reached a maximum of 4 points, but it was not meant to be as weather conditions prevented the game from happening. On the other hand, USA made history by becoming the first team to qualify for the Super Eight stage in their debut appearance.

The chances of the game taking place looked slim as Florida was hit by a tropical thunderstorm, causing continuous rain and flash flooding. The only other game scheduled at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground between Sri Lanka and Nepal was also abandoned without any play, leading to the islanders being eliminated from Super Eight contention.

The US National Weather Service issued a “flood watch” for southern Florida until Friday evening, making it highly unlikely for any matches at the venue to take place as all games are day games starting at 10:30 am local time.
